Engineering Services Firm AKS Expands Washington Presence with Two Add-ons

CLEVELAND and DALLAS, May 27, 2025  |  Align Capital Partners’ (“ACP”) portfolio company AKS Engineering (“AKS” or the “Company”) recently completed two strategic acquisitions in the Pacific Northwest. In February, AKS purchased Permit Surveying Inc. (“PSI”) to enhance the Company’s survey capabilities in the Tri-Cities region of Washington. Following the PSI transaction, AKS acquired Kirkland, WA-based CPH Consultants (“CPH”), a full-service civil engineering firm, which extends AKS’ reach to the Puget Sound and Central Washington.

Based in Richland, Washington, PSI provides surveying services to local municipalities, federal agencies, special districts, ports and private landowners in the Tri-Cities region. “PSI and AKS have a lot in common including our values, client types and core services. This deal allows us to grow our business in ways that weren’t available to us before,” commented PSI President Chris Ammann. AKS CEO Blair Carlson added, “We have been keeping an eye out for opportunities to expand our capabilities in the Tri-Cities region. After meeting with Chris and his team, we found PSI to be the perfect fit.”

CPH provides civil engineering, landscape architecture and land use planning services throughout Washington’s Puget Sound and Central regions. The transaction marks a major milestone for AKS, expanding the Company’s reach for clients in new, priority growth markets such as the Puget Sound. Matt Hough, President and Founder of CPH said, “I’m thrilled to join forces with the leading civil engineering and land development firm in the Pacific Northwest. Like AKS, CPH puts our clients first, and I look forward to providing our clients access to a broader suite of capabilities through this partnership.”

“We are pleased with our continued growth through M&A at AKS. Consistent with these two acquisitions, AKS will continue our pursuit of partnering with high-quality, like-minded engineering, consulting and land development services firms throughout the Pacific Northwest,” added AKS Principal Monty Hurley.

Jack Parks, Rob Langley, Brad Mundt, Matt Bowen and Ryan Schmidt worked alongside management on the transactions.
